Art practice

Angela studied visual art at James Cook University, majoring in painting under the North Queensland painter Anneke Silver. She has shown work in Cairns, Rockhampton and Brisbane through school exhibitions and arts events.

Her love of photography grew over many years of working alongside artists in residence and visiting experts, among them photographers Joachim Froese and Leah Desborough. She has run photography clubs in schools, and at Churchie she initiated the inaugural Tri-School Photography Competition with Brisbane Grammar School and St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, which grew into Camera Obscura.

Her series First Snow in Paris is now online, with framed canvases and hand-signed limited editions to follow.

Understanding Art exists to help people slow down, look closely and think critically about the images that shape our world.

Through The SEEU™ Method, Angela teaches audiences how to observe carefully, question confidently and construct informed interpretations using evidence.

Professional testimonial

I have worked with Angela McCormack across several school contexts, and her capacity to engage students and build strong, positive relationships is exceptional. Whether working in primary or secondary settings, Angela consistently fosters deep appreciation for the visual arts and develops students’ confidence, skill, and creative expression. Her ability to transfer her passion for the arts into meaningful learning experiences enables students to grow as artists and experience a genuine sense of accomplishment.

Angela brings this same passion, care, and professionalism to her work with staff. She strengthens team culture, supports colleagues in developing their own artistic and pedagogical capabilities, and leads with generosity, clarity, and creativity. Her influence enriches both student learning and staff practice, making her an invaluable contributor to any educational or artistic community.
